GoodFriday: On being robust, a new morning routine, & hidden superpower

Happy GoodFriday!

Here’s something I heard, thought, and did this week.

Something I Heard: Superpower

Being unoffendable is a superpower.

That rude email? Not about you. That harsh criticism? Their projection. That personal attack? Their pain showing.

When you stop taking things so personally, you become unstoppable. Most people spend energy on offense. Spend yours on progress. Let everything bounce off.

Save your energy for what matters.

Something I Thought: Being Robust

I’m not looking to be the most resilient man I can be, I’m looking to be the most robust man I can be.

When you are resilient you just return to the same as you were before after taking shots.

Being robust means that you are a strong, capable force that would take a lot to break.

I want my body and mind to be so robust that it would take a tremendous force to break me.

Something I’m Doing: New Morning Routine

For the longest time, I let my mornings slip away from me. Upon waking, I’d roll over, grab my phone, and scroll through social media for 10–15 minutes before getting out of bed. Every time I did it, I felt worse. I never gained anything from it. There was never anything worthwhile to see, it was just a way to get a quick hit of dopamine so I could muster up the energy to start my day.

While harmless on the surface, I knew it wasn’t good for me. It wasn’t how I wanted to begin my mornings. To me, it felt like waking up and eating candy first thing. I wasn’t giving my body or mind what they needed to set the day up for success.

So this week, I decided to change. Now, as soon as I wake up, I start with a 10 minute guided meditation. Then I knock out 50 pull-ups or push-ups while listening to country music—something that makes me happy. Finally, I finish with a cold shower. The whole sequence takes less than 20 minutes, but it’s a far more productive way to start the day. Instead of wasting time on something that gives me nothing back, I’m doing something that primes my body and mind to take on whatever comes.

Since implementing this new routine, my days have improved significantly. The key here is going to be staying on the routine when conditions aren’t ideal. But so far, I’m loving this new routine.

Until next week!
