GoodFriday: On outdoor survival, making your bed, & thought
Happy GoodFriday!
Here’s something I heard, thought, and did this week.
Something I Heard: Making Your Bed
“If you make your bed every morning, you will have accomplished the first task of the day. It will give you a small sense of pride, and it will encourage you to do another task, and another, and another. By the end of the day, that one task completed will have turned into many tasks completed.
Making your bed will also reinforce the fact that little things in life matter. If you can’t do the little things right, you will never do the big things right.
And, if by chance you have a miserable day, you will come home to a bed that is made—that you made—and a made bed gives you encouragement that tomorrow will be better.”— William H. McRaven, Make Your Bed
If you haven’t heard of William McRaven or the commencement speech he gave a UT Austin I highly suggest you check it out. I come back to it a couple times per year to help me get back on track. I hope you enjoy it as much as I have.

Something I Thought: The Object of Thought
During my meditation practice this week, I was instructed to recognize thought as just another object of awareness. This was a profound insight because we often view thoughts as part of us, but they can arise from seemingly nowhere. If we take the time to recognize them as objects, no different than a cloud passing through the sky or a sound in the distance, it can give us a greater sense of control. Thoughts just appear. We don’t need to be consumed by them or see them as who we are; they’re simply objects of experience.
Something I’m Enjoying: Outdoors Survival Videos
Lately I’ve been really enjoying watching these outdoor survival videos. After a long day, I’ll find myself scrolling through tons of videos on starting fires, building shelters, fishing, foredging, and water purification. It’s so interesting to me because my life is so far removed from a life like this. The creators also have such an interesting way of making you feel like you are capable of surviving in the wilderness.
If you’re looking for something entertaining to watch this weekend and maybe want to learn something useful then check out the videos in the link below!
These are a couple of my favorites.
Until next week!
