Happy GoodFriday!
Here's something I heard, thought, and did this week.
Something I Heard: Feet Don’t Lie
“Feet don’t lie.”
I can’t remember where I picked this up, and I can’t find a source, but I keep coming back to it.
We can say whatever we want about what we’re going to do. Where we actually put ourselves says more. The gym at 5am, the chair in the office, the seat at the table. Your feet have already made the argument before your mouth opens.
Something I Thought: Aim
Accuracy means nothing if you never improve your aim.
I was talking with a friend at the gym about my build phase. The program I’m running, how I’m tracking food, how I’m measuring body fat. I mentioned I’m using a 3-site skinfold and he said, “isn’t that not very accurate?”
He’s right. Compared to the more sophisticated methods, it isn’t.
But accuracy only matters if you’re doing something with the number. I’m on the scale every morning. I reassess body fat every few weeks. I take those readings and adjust from there. The value isn’t in any single measurement, it’s in the trend and what I do about it.
A one-off reading that’s 99% accurate and changes nothing is worth less than a rough one you actually act on.
If you don’t practice adjusting your aim, you’ll miss the target no matter how good your instruments are.
Something I'm Doing: Zero Experience
As a trainer there are a ton of apps out there for programming client workouts. I’ve never liked any of them.
They all do the same thing. They give you a place to store your templates. That’s it. None of them handle what actually happens in a session. What do you do when a client gets injured? How do you rate the difficulty of a set? How many hard sets has this person done for a body part this week? What happens when someone shows up with pain they didn’t have yesterday?
Those aren’t edge cases. That’s the job.
So I built my own with Claude Code. I have zero experience writing software.
It took a few months and it was frustrating in a way I wasn’t prepared for. Things would crash. Something would get deleted and I’d be convinced I’d just broken the whole thing permanently. Plenty of times I’d build what I thought I asked for and get something else entirely.
But I kept at it. It’s live on the App Store and Google Play now, and I use it every day with my clients and for my own training.
Watching it go live on both stores is a feeling I won’t forget. I started with nothing but an idea and made it real.
Until next week!
