GoodFriday: On a NEW world record, wearable tech, & control
Happy GoodFriday!
Here’s something I heard, thought, and did this week.
Something I Heard: New Deadlift World Record
Last Saturday, history was made. Hafthor “The Mountain” Bjornsson broke the deadlift world record with an incredible 505 kg lift. It’s a monumental feat of strength and a true testament to human capability—over half a ton has finally been conquered!

Something I Thought: Control
The more you try to control everything, the more everything controls you.
There’s freedom in realizing that not everything needs to go your way in order for things to work out.
You can train hard and still have an off day. You can plan perfectly and still get thrown a curveball.
Trying to micromanage every outcome creates tension, not peace.
Peace comes when you show up, do your part, and let go of what you can’t control.
It’s about trusting the process.
Something I’m Doing: Testing the Waters with Wearables
Last week, a thoughtful client gifted me a Whoop strap, and I’ve been using it to track my sleep, recovery, and activity ever since.
I’ve never been big on wearables, but I’ve got to admit, it’s been interesting to see how my body trends from day to day. One thing that really stood out was after a heavy deadlift session yesterday, my recovery score dropped to 47%, even though I got a solid 97% sleep score.
That drop was largely due to a dip in my HRV (heart rate variability), which is one of the key indicators Whoop uses to assess how well your nervous system is bouncing back. It’s interesting to see how a single, fatiguing lift can show up so clearly in your recovery data.
I’m looking forward to collecting more data over time, and hopefully using it to better inform how I train, recover, and push performance forward.
If you use a wearable I’d love to hear what kind you use and how you’ve benefited from the data it’s provided you!
Until next week!
