Something I Thought: The Privilege

During the Covid years I had the privilege of growing a social media account to a pretty substantial following. Kettlebells were hot and I had advanced knowledge of the tool from certifications I'd done years earlier. The timing couldn't have been better. I made content constantly and it grew.

It didn't feel like work. That's the part I keep coming back to. It was easy because it never once felt like something I had to do.

The market looks different now. There are far more people competing in fitness and the bar is higher. The work itself hasn't really changed. I know exactly what has to be done. But it feels like a drag, and I can feel the weight of the obligation sitting on it.

Same task. Different feeling. And the feeling is what decides whether I actually do it or not.

So that's what I'm working on right now. Figuring out how to turn it back into a privilege.

A privilege you'll carry. An obligation you'll drag.

Something I'm Doing: Obsession

It's been a while since I've seen a movie I couldn't stop thinking about.

With remake after remake, it feels like Hollywood has gotten too afraid to take a risk on a new idea. This one was a risk, and it paid off in a big way.

Obsession is a first feature from writer-director Curry Barker, made for about $750,000 with a young cast. The central theme isn't original. Be careful what you wish for. Except the tagline swaps one word. Be careful who you wish for. That's the whole movie.

There's so much thought and care put into every part of it. I was down the rabbit hole for days afterward. Even if you're not into horror films, I think it's worth your time just for how well the story is told.

It's refreshing to see someone with new ideas and a new perspective get the chance to make something this good. Highly recommend.
